This sounds wonderful! Thank you for the fantastic suggestions. We are going to try this in reverse, leaving from Halifax and arriving in Yarmouth on the Labour Day weekend. I'm also looking forward to staying at Oak Island the last week of September with a group booking! Cheers,

You're very right. When doing research on the holiday I did find several alternate legends. The ones expressed in the blog are just some of the assumptions that have been made over the year.

No one knows the true origin of Valentine's Day. There are a number of legends surrounding the history of this annual, love filled celebration. From Pagan Days to Ancient Rome to modern times myth and mystery shroud one of America's favorite holidays.

Dear Kristen...

Oak Island Toursim Society was dissolved in 2009 and therefore there are no longer Explore Oak Island Days.

However- a new group has emerged called the Friends of Oak Island Society and regular island tours are becoming a feature. Two weekends with over 12 tours took place recently and several hundred people had the opportunity to walk the island with a wonderful tour guide. There is a special package at Atlantica Hotel & Marina (formerly Oak Island Resort) on Nov. 19-21, 2010 where there will be a private tour of Oak Island.

http://www.atlanticaoakisland.com/en/home/packages/package.aspx?id=258

In addition the Friends of Oak Island Society are working with the island owners to bring many opportunities for the public to tour Oak Island in 2011 and these dates will be announced on the society website in the New Year http://www.friendsofoakisland.com

Kindest Regards

Unfortunately, the island is privately owned and the public are no longer able to gain access. However, once a year, usually in June, the island does open up for guided tours to the public. These are called "Oak Island Days".

You can contact the resort for more information to see if the island will be opening to the public again this year.

Cheers!
